FAQs
Will the council accept?
Yes, reports meet local authority standards for smooth approval.
How fast is the turnaround?
We confirm clear timelines at the outset, so you know exactly when to expect your completed report. We also aim to respond to all enquiries within 24 hours, ensuring prompt and reliable communication throughout your project.
Do I need full BS 5837?
Not always. We recommend the simplest assessment that fits your planning needs, no more.
Are prices fixed?
We believe in transparent, upfront pricing — with no hidden fees or unexpected extras. Every site is unique and requires individual assessment before a formal quotation can be provided. A clear, itemised breakdown of costs will be provided during your initial consultation, so you understand exactly what is included before any work begins.
Who writes reports?
Experienced arborists with local authority backgrounds handle your survey.
What if the council asks questions?
Although our reports are council-ready, we expect a level of ongoing communication from the local authority as your proposal progresses. Our role does not end once the report has been submitted. We remain available to respond to any follow-up queries from the council, providing what we consider an essential aftercare service for our clients.
What is a BS 5837 tree survey and why do I need one?
A BS 5837 survey follows the British Standard BS 5837:2012 – Trees in relation to design, demolition and construction and records tree quality, constraints, and impacts on proposed works. Local planning authorities may expect this evidence as part of planning applications where trees are on or near the site.
What is a tree survey?
A tree survey is a professional inspection of one or more trees to assess their condition, structural integrity, and management requirements. It helps identify defects, disease, decay, or safety concerns and provides clear recommendations for ongoing care, satisfying your legislative duty of care.
Do I need a tree survey?
If you are fortunate enough to own trees, it is best practice to have them periodically professionally inspected. The frequency of these inspections is dependant on risk and likelihood of failure. We often recommend no works to healthy trees with a prescribed resurvey timeframe. This saves you money on unnecessary tree works, prolongs the life expectancy of the trees and gives you peace of mind in terms of liability.
